On June 18, 2011, Bama Hockey announced its 2011-12 schedule as the Road to Atlantic City. On February 18, 2012, Bama Hockey secured a spot in the 2012 National Championship Tournament as the #3 seed from the South Region by beating the University of Richmond 5-3 in the South Regionals.
Bama started the season with the daunting task of playing a schedule that none of it’s previous teams had ever seen. “After recent post-season struggles, we wanted to challenge our team with the strongest schedule in the country. We certainly had a number of difficult games in there,” stated Coach Quenneville. In the end, a tough schedule, difficult travel, and a complete refusal to fail from the players on the team lead them to victory when it counted. With this season dedicated to David Mosier, a fallen teammate, the Tide beat Christopher Newport 7-1 on Friday and Richmond 5-3 on Saturday to advance to its first ever National Tournament.
Assistant Coach/GM David Noble stated “this weekend was a routine set of games because of the way the boys went about their season. They honored the hard work of all those that have come before them, too numerous to mention, but it’s all of those people who have made it so special to play for the University of Alabama.” The Tide celebrate tonight, but tomorrow they will have to return to business because the SECHC Championship tournament will be this coming weekend in Huntsville, Alabama.
The national championship will be played at Canlan IceSports Vineland in Vineland, NJ.
